By Zoila Palma: Taiwan is celebrating its 114th Double Ten National Day with grand parades, cultural performances, and patriotic displays in front of the Presidential Office in Taipei.
The festivities opened with a powerful 100-drummer performance by the Taiwan Taiko Association, followed by the traditional flyover of a Mirage 2000 fighter jet and a parade led by the Republic of China’s Honor Guards and marching band.
Students from Taichung’s Shin Min High School added vibrant color to the event with a performance symbolizing Taiwan’s beauty and its historic nickname, “Formosa.”
President William Lai (賴清德) and other dignitaries addressed the nation, celebrating Taiwan’s resilience, progress, and global partnerships. The celebration also included the Presidential Office Light Show, which has illuminated Taipei since Tuesday night.
Adding to the spectacle, Taipei 101 has been lighting up the skyline with fireworks since Wednesday, culminating tonight.
Around the world, Taiwan’s friends and allies — including Belize — joined in marking the occasion. Belize and Taiwan, which established diplomatic relations in 1989, continue to share a strong bond rooted in mutual respect and cooperation in areas such as health, education, agriculture, and technology.
