By Zoila Palma: Taiwan has deployed U.S.-made HIMARS rocket systems during its largest annual military exercise, Han Kuang, showcasing its readiness to defend against a potential Chinese invasion, Reuters report.
The High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems were seen operating near Taichung on day four of the 10-day drills. With a range of 300 km, the HIMARS can strike targets across the Taiwan Strait in China’s Fujian province.
Taiwanese officials say the war games, which include river blockades and live-fire drills, are designed to simulate real combat conditions and highlight Taiwan’s commitment to self-defense.
China dismissed the drills as a “bluff” and reiterated its opposition to U.S.-Taiwan military cooperation.
Meanwhile, Taiwan reported 14 Chinese aircraft and nine naval ships near its territory overnight, with some jets crossing the median line of the strait.
The drills aim to send a clear message to Beijing and the international community: Taiwan is prepared to resist aggression and defend its sovereignty.
