By Zoila Palma: Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump spoke for 50 minutes on Saturday, focusing on the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran, Reuters report.
According to the Kremlin, Putin condemned Israel’s military strikes on Iran and warned of the risk of broader regional escalation. He also reiterated Russia’s support for diplomatic solutions to Iran’s nuclear program.
Trump, writing on Truth Social, confirmed the call centered on the Middle East, saying both leaders agreed the war “should end.” He added he urged Putin to also stop Russia’s war in Ukraine.
A planned round of U.S.-Iran talks in Oman was cancelled, but both sides expressed openness to future negotiations, Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov said.
The leaders also discussed Ukraine briefly, with Putin signaling readiness for talks after June 22.
Ushakov noted their “business-like” conversation and that Putin congratulated Trump on his 79th birthday.
