International News: Officials in Colombia and Ecuador bust drug ring exporting 5 tons of cocaine a month

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Joint efforts between Colombia and Ecuador led to the disruptions of a criminal organization responsible for sending up to 5 tons of cocaine per month to the U.S. and Europe.

Authorities captured the Colombian brothers in charge.

Colombian police said the Los Curva criminal organization generated more than $2 billion a year in profits from the trade.

According to Reuters, the year-long police operation culminated on Saturday with the detention of Colombian brothers Hader and Dairon Cuero, leaders of Los Curva.

Hader Cuero is wanted by the United States on drug trafficking charges.

Colombia is considered the world’s leading producer of cocaine.

Authorities in Colombia and Ecuador said that the criminals used speed boats and Mexico-flagged vessels to transport the drugs to Mexico on maritime routes.
