By Zoila Palma: North Korea launched more than 10 rockets from multiple rocket launchers this morning from the Sunan area near Pyongyang, South Korea’s military reported.
The rockets were fired in a northwesterly direction, though additional details about the launch have yet to be disclosed, AA reports.
The launch comes just a day after South Korea, the United States, and Japan conducted joint air drills over the Korean Peninsula—an exercise aimed at strengthening trilateral security cooperation in the region.
According to South Korean defense officials, the projectiles are believed to be short-range ballistic missiles, a category banned under United Nations Security Council resolutions.
This marks North Korea’s first rocket launch since South Korean President Lee Jae-myung took office earlier this month.
Lee has pledged to reduce tensions and revive dialogue with Pyongyang, stating his administration would “make every effort to promote peace, coexistence, and prosperity on the Korean Peninsula.”
