By Zoila Palma:  More than 350 people have been killed in Nepal following a massive flash flood along the Nepal-Tibet border, with rescuers continuing to search for survivors.

The disaster destroyed homes, inundated roads and swept away bridges, while more than 900 people remain missing in Nepal, BBC reports.

The U.S. Geological Survey has attributed the disaster to a “glacial collapse and debris flow” and warned that additional flooding remains possible.

A rising lake has reportedly formed near the China-Nepal border, raising concerns that it could overflow or burst its banks and trigger another devastating flood.

The disaster has also caused widespread casualties in Tibet, where at least three people have been confirmed dead and hundreds are missing, although it remains unclear whether the figures overlap with those reported in Nepal.

Hundreds of foreign nationals are also among the missing, including tourists from India, the United States and the United Kingdom, while Nepalese army and police personnel are also unaccounted for.

The humanitarian impact is particularly severe for children, with UNICEF reporting that more than 17,000 children urgently need assistance.

UNICEF warned that survivors face increased risks of disease, malnutrition, violence and exploitation and has appealed for US$17.2 million to support its emergency response while the full scale of the disaster is assessed.
