By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: On Wednesday, July 31, 2024, Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador stated there is no evidence of fraud in Venezuela’s recent presidential election, which has been marred by controversy and led to widespread protests.
According to Reuters, during the daily press brief, López Obrador addressed concerns about the election, which Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro claims to have won but has been disputed by the opposition.
“I have no proof, there is no evidence in the case of Venezuela,” López Obrador said.
Despite the controversy, López Obrador emphasized that Mexico will not participate in an emergency meeting of the Organization of American States (OAS) permanent council, which was convened following requests from nine Latin American governments.
“We do not agree with the OAS’ biased attitude,” he said.
Earlier in the week, López Obrador had indicated he would withhold recognition of a winner until all results were fully reported.
He reiterated his stance, urging international entities to avoid intervening in Venezuela’s internal affairs.
While other nations and international organizations have voiced concerns about the election’s legitimacy.
