International News: Mexico seeks repatriation of 14 nationals held in U.S. ‘Alligator Alcatraz’ detention center

By Zoila Palma:  Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum announced that 14 Mexican nationals are currently being held at the U.S. detention facility known as “Alligator Alcatraz,” located near Miami in a remote wetland area.

“All arrangements are being made to ensure they are repatriated immediately,” Sheinbaum said.

Among those detained are Carlos and Alejandro Gonzalez, two brothers reportedly held in harsh conditions, Reuters reported.

Their father, Martin Gonzalez, described the facility as windowless, with lights on 24/7, leaving detainees disoriented.

Mexico’s consul in Orlando, Juan Sabines, said the brothers remain in legal limbo, as their court-appointed lawyer lacks access to their case file and no judge has been assigned.

Since President Donald Trump took office on January 20, over 73,000 individuals have been returned to Mexico, Sheinbaum added, as Mexico continues diplomatic efforts to secure the return of its citizens.
