By Zoila Palma: Mexico has taken in nearly 39,000 people deported from the United States since President Donald Trump returned to office, with about 33,000 of them being Mexican nationals, President Claudia Sheinbaum said today.
According to Reuters, President Sheinbaum noted that only a few thousand non-Mexicans were accepted on humanitarian grounds.
Deportation numbers have dropped compared to the same period last year under President Joe Biden, when around 52,000 deportees were received in just three months.
Sheinbaum attributed the decline to fewer border crossings and new U.S. agreements with countries across Latin America, which have discouraged many migrants from attempting to enter the U.S.
