By Zoila Palma: A massive LP gas tanker explosion in Mexico City on Wednesday left three people dead and at least 70 injured, according to city officials.
The blast occurred around 2:20 p.m. when a truck carrying nearly 50,000 liters of gas overturned on the Puente de La Concordia Bridge, sparking flames that engulfed nearby vehicles, Riviera Maya reports.
Head of Government Clara Brugada Molina said the victims—51 men and 16 women—were rushed to hospitals across the capital and the State of Mexico.
Among the dead were two adults and a baby. The explosion also damaged at least 28 vehicles.
Authorities released a preliminary list of those affected to help families locate loved ones.
The truck, owned by Silza Transport of the Tomza Group, was reportedly speeding before it rolled over.
The driver survived but remains in critical condition, said Security Secretary Pablo Vázquez Camacho. Forensic teams are investigating the cause of the accident.
Officials have pledged continued support to victims’ families as rescue and recovery efforts proceed.
