By Zoila Palma: Officials in Mexico have arrested 32 people in a major crackdown on one of the country’s leading fuel theft gangs operating in central Mexico, BBC reports.

The group illegally siphoned fuel from pipelines and sold it across Mexico City and the states of Hidalgo and Querétaro, officials said.

Key suspects identified include Cirio Sergio “N” and Luis Miguel “N,” alleged leaders in charge of extraction and distribution, and Aurelio “N,” believed to handle logistics and finances.

The operation followed six months of investigation and led to the seizure of 12 properties, 50 vehicles, 36 firearms, and 16 million pesos in cash.

Exotic animals, including a lion cub, jaguar cub, and spider monkeys, were also found during raids.

Officials confirmed the animals were rescued from poor conditions and are now under federal care.
