By Zoila Palma:  Ernesto “Don Neto” Fonseca Carrillo, a former Mexican drug lord convicted in the 1985 murder of U.S. DEA agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena, has been released after completing his 40-year sentence, a federal agent confirmed Wednesday.

Fonseca, 94, had been under house arrest near Mexico City since 2016 due to health issues.

He was quietly released last weekend, the agent said on condition of anonymity, AP reports.

A co-founder of the Guadalajara Cartel, Fonseca was arrested in Puerto Vallarta in 1985.

His cartel partner, Rafael Caro Quintero, was extradited to the U.S. earlier this year. It’s unclear if U.S. authorities will also seek Fonseca.
