By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Cristian Fernando Gutierrez-Ochoa, a high-ranking member of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, was arrested in Riverside, California, on Tuesday, AFP reports.
U.S. officials said Gutierrez-Ochoa, the son-in-law of cartel leader Nemesio “El Mencho” Oseguera-Cervantes, faked his death to evade justice and live in luxury.
He faces charges of drug trafficking, including coordinating the shipment of 40,000 kg of methamphetamine and 2,000 kg of cocaine into the U.S.
Gutierrez-Ochoa also allegedly kidnapped two Mexican navy members in 2021.
Oseguera-Cervantes is also wanted, with a $10 million reward for his capture.
