By Zoila Palma: A Venezuelan toddler left behind in the U.S. after her parents were deported has been reunited with her family in Caracas, prompting President Nicolás Maduro to thank U.S. President Donald Trump for her return.
Two-year-old Maikelys Espinoza Bernal arrived Wednesday on a migrant removal flight and was welcomed by First Lady Cilia Flores, Reuters report.
She was later reunited with her mother at the presidential palace.
Maduro called the return “an act of justice” and credited Trump envoy Richard Grenell for helping facilitate it.
The child’s father remains imprisoned in El Salvador under accusations of gang ties, which his family denies.
U.S. officials have also accused the mother of criminal activity, though no evidence has been made public. Both families reject the claims.
