By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): An Air China flight was forced to make an emergency landing after a lithium battery inside a passenger’s carry-on luggage burst into flames mid-flight. The fire reportedly started in the overhead bin, prompting the cabin crew to act swiftly to contain the situation before it escalated. The airline confirmed that all passengers and crew members were unharmed.
According to Air China, the incident occurred shortly after takeoff when smoke was seen coming from the overhead compartment. Flight attendants immediately used onboard fire extinguishers to douse the flames, and the pilots diverted the aircraft to the nearest airport as a safety precaution. The plane landed safely, and emergency crews were on standby upon arrival.
Authorities have since launched an investigation into the cause of the fire, focusing on the lithium battery that allegedly ignited spontaneously.
