By Zoila Palma:  Hawaii’s Kilauea volcano erupted again on Sunday, sending lava fountains soaring over 1,000 feet into the air and releasing a massive plume of ash and volcanic material.

The eruption began around 4:15 p.m. and continued for several hours, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

Lava flows remained within the summit caldera, posing no threat to nearby communities, CBS reports.

Fountains from Kilauea’s north and south vents reached heights of over 1,000 and 800 feet, respectively. The eruption also produced a 5,000-foot plume containing ash, volcanic rock, and Pele’s hair — sharp glass strands that can pose health risks when carried by wind.

Kilauea, located on Hawaii’s Big Island, is one of the world’s most active volcanoes and has erupted frequently since December 2024. The spectacle continues to draw tourists and can be viewed live via USGS livestreams.
