International News: Israel urges evacuations in Southern Lebanon amid escalating conflict

By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Israel’s military has called for the immediate evacuation of residents from over 20 towns in southern Lebanon, including the provincial capital Nabatieh, following significant clashes with Hezbollah.

According to Reuters, the total number of towns now under evacuation orders is at 70 as Israel conducts operations in response to recent losses against the Iran-backed group.

Amidst ongoing fighting with Hamas in Gaza, Israel has intensified its military presence in southern Lebanon, stating its objective is to secure safe return for Israeli citizens displaced by Hezbollah’s attacks.

The Lebanese government reports over 1.2 million people have been displaced by Israeli strikes.

On Thursday, two Lebanese soldiers were killed in separate Israeli airstrikes, prompting a rare return of fire from the Lebanese army.

In Beirut’s Dahiye suburb, heavy Israeli bombardments led to explosions and rising smoke, while overnight strikes in central Beirut resulted in nine deaths.

In retaliation to Israeli operations, Hezbollah claimed responsibility for attacks on Israeli forces.

Meanwhile, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian warned of decisive responses to any military aggression.

As the conflict escalates, nations are evacuating their citizens from Beirut, and reports indicate nearly 2,000 fatalities, including many children, since the conflict reignited last month.

Shelters, including a former nightclub, are now housing displaced individuals seeking refuge from the violence.
