By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Iran fired nearly 200 ballistic missiles at Israel on Tuesday night, with the Israeli military reporting that most were intercepted.
According to the BBC, some missiles struck central and southern Israel, resulting in the death of a Palestinian man in the West Bank.
This marked Iran’s second major missile assault on Israel this year, following an attack involving around 300 missiles in April.
Sirens sounded across Israel, prompting the entire population to seek shelter.
In addition, videos showed missiles flying over cities like Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, with explosions reported as air defenses engaged the incoming threat.
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed responsibility, stating the strikes were retaliation for Israeli actions against Iranian leaders and interests.
Israeli officials, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, described the attack as a failure for Iran, emphasizing the effectiveness of Israel’s air defense systems.
“Iran made a big mistake tonight and it will pay for it,” PM Netanyahu stated.
“The regime in Iran does not understand our determination to defend ourselves and our determination to retaliate against our enemies,” he added.
The U.S. and UK expressed strong support for Israel, condemning Iran’s actions, while concerns about further escalation in the region continue to mount.
