By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: India is focused on deepening its economic ties with the United States under the incoming Trump administration, according to Trade Minister Piyush Goyal.
India has already strengthened relations with the U.S. under previous administrations, including those of Barack Obama, Donald Trump, and Joe Biden.
In 2023/24, bilateral trade between the two countries exceeded $118 billion, with India enjoying a trade surplus of $32 billion.
India is optimistic that trade could grow by an additional $50 billion in the next few years, Reuters report.
The government and industry groups are advocating for a broader trade agreement to help Indian manufacturers integrate into global supply chains.
While seeking to protect its manufacturers from potential U.S. tariffs, India is also exploring ways to strengthen economic ties as Trump threatens higher tariffs and restrictions on Chinese imports.
