By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: The United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) made 956 arrests on Sunday, with significant activity reported in the southeastern U.S, Fox reports.
The arrests were part of ongoing mass deportation operations, which have been taking place daily since President Donald Trump’s inauguration.
ICE officials said 554 detainers were lodged, indicating probable cause that those arrested were removable under federal immigration law.
Arrests included individuals from Puerto Rico, Florida, Nicaragua, Jamaica, and Mexico, with charges ranging from domestic violence to DUI offenses and weapons-related crimes.
The Miami field office highlighted several high-profile arrests, including a Nicaraguan national charged with aggravated assault and a Jamaica resident with drug and firearm charges.
Tom Homan, the Border Czar, warned that arrest numbers will rise in the coming weeks as the administration expands operations, initially focusing on violent illegal aliens but eventually targeting a broader range of individuals. “You’ll see more arrests as we open up the aperture,” Homan said.
