By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Doctors are calling for greater transparency from China as cases of the human metapneumovirus (HMPV), which is overwhelming hospitals, continue to rise, Daily Mail reports.
Despite videos showing overcrowded hospitals, China has downplayed the situation, claiming the infections are less severe than last year.
This has raised concerns of a repeat of the initial Covid-19 response.
HMPV, which causes cold-like symptoms, is suspected to be behind the outbreak in China.
Experts emphasize the need for China to share data on the virus, including genomic details to help guide vaccine development.
Meanwhile, the US is also seeing a rise in HMPV cases, with the percentage of positive tests doubling in December.
