By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: In another tragic episode of violence gripping Mexico’s state of Guanajuato, 6 members of 2 families were brutally killed, marking the second such massacre in the region within a month, authorities confirmed on Wednesday.
According to the Associated Press, the surge in indiscriminate violence has seen an alarming rise in attacks targeting women, children, and entire families across Guanajuato and other states embroiled in fierce turf wars among drug cartels.
Gunmen opened fire in Yuriria killing 6 people including a young boy and a woman.
According to Yuriria’s Mayor, María De Los Ángeles López, the victims were tragically gunned down while working at a construction site.
Authorities from Guanajuato’s prosecutor’s office are actively investigating the incident but have yet to apprehend any suspects.
Security analyst David Saucedo highlighted that southern Guanajuato, bordering Michoacan state, remains a hotspot for cartel activity.
