By Zoila Palma: Today, President of Guatemala Bernardo Arevalo announced that since the declaration and enforcement of the State of Emergency, security forces have detained 293 people (arrests linked to criminal activity).
“The Government is doing its job, and we have made firm decisions to continue protecting the peace of Guatemalans, as well as the lives of the officers of the Guatemalan National Civil Police (PNC),” Arevalo said.
In addition, the PNC and military detained 23 gang members from Barrio 18 and Mara Salvatrucha.
Authorities have also seized 37 weapons.
“We will not stop. This fight is for the restoration of justice and peace in our country. To the dignified people: before you stands a President and a Government team willing to make the decisions that previous Governments refused to make,” Arevalo stated.
