International News: Guatemalan Government implements fuel subsidy to relieve burden on consumers

By Zoila Palma:  On April 14, 2026, the Guatemalan congress approved a fuel subsidy to relieve the burden on consumers.

According to Prensa Latina, the approved subsidy will impact fuel prices at the pump early next month.

It is set to cost 2.2 billion quetzales (approximately US$288 million), which are being reallocated and redirected from existing public spending, a congressman explained.

The congressman said that the funds are being reallocated and redirected and includes cut to ministries and institutions.

This will reduce prices for consumers and it set to last 3 months, the congressman further explained.
