International News: Guatemalan Armed Forces reportedly open fire on Guatemalan fishermen then attempts to turn blame on BDF

By Breaking Belize News Staff: Reports circulating online on local Guatemalan media indicate that on April 9, 2026, members of the Guatemalan Armed Forces (GAF) reportedly opened fire on Guatemalan fishermen.

The incident occurred near Puerto Barrios in Guatemalan waters, Zonabeat TV reports.

Several reports suggest that the army mistook the men for drug traffickers.

One of the men reportedly  died and the other is allegedly hospitalized.

Following the attack, the GAF allegedly claimed there was an exchange of fire with the BDF.

The survivor, however, reportedly said that the uniforms marked Guatemalan Army and displayed their own Guatemalan flag.

Unofficial reports from residents in Punta Gorda allege that the incident did occur.

Guatemalan nor Belizean officials have yet commented on this incident.
