By Zoila Palma: On Monday, France denounced an Israeli airstrike on Tehran’s Evin prison, calling it “unacceptable” and warning that it endangered two French citizens held there.
French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot said the attack put Cecile Kohler and Jacques Paris — detained in Iran for three years — at serious risk.
According to Reuters, Barrot demanded immediate access for French diplomats and reiterated that neither citizen was harmed in the strike.
Evin prison, known for housing political prisoners and foreign nationals, marks a shift in Israeli targeting beyond military sites.
Barrot urged an immediate halt to all strikes to allow for renewed diplomacy.
France has also filed a case against Iran at the World Court for violating the rights of its detained citizens.
