International News: Former Wrightstown Farm operator extradited to face 149 animal cruelty charges

By Aaron Humes: Abigail Tuttle O’Keeffe, a former operator of a Wrightstown, Pennsylvania farm, has been extradited from Belize to Pennsylvania to face 149 charges. This development follows what authorities are describing as the largest farm animal cruelty case in county history, as reported by the Belmopan Humane Society and NewtownPANow.com.

O’Keeffe, 54, was taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals Service in Belize last week, where she had been arrested on an unrelated firearm possession charge in April. She arrived in Pennsylvania on Saturday morning and was preliminarily arraigned shortly thereafter. Among the charges she faces are aggravated cruelty to animals resulting in serious injury or death, and neglect of animals.

The investigation into O’Keeffe began in August 2024, after law enforcement was alerted to the distressing conditions at Narrow Way Farm on Worthington Mill Road by concerned workers and volunteers. A warrant for her arrest was issued as the investigation unfolded, leading to her flight to Belize just before charges were filed.

Authorities revealed that several animals at the farm suffered immensely, with some dying due to severe malnutrition and neglect. Investigators uncovered a makeshift composting site filled with decaying animal carcasses, while many of the animals—including chickens, goats, pigs, and sheep—were found to be suffering from serious health issues, including heavy parasitic loads.

According to Bucks County SPCA Police Chief Nikki Thompson, the complexity and severity of the case required extensive interagency cooperation. “The number of animals, severity of their suffering, and the collaborative efforts necessary to bring Ms. O’Keeffe back to the United States make this case exceptional,” Thompson stated.

O’Keeffe initially surrendered her animals to the Bucks County SPCA via text message on August 7, 2024, after avoiding direct contact with authorities. Following her extradition, more than 100 animals that had been removed from the farm required extensive veterinary care, with some needing euthanasia.

The U.S. Marshals Service, in collaboration with the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office and other agencies including INTERPOL Washington, successfully coordinated her return after her arrest in Belize. Eric Gartner, U.S. Marshal for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, expressed satisfaction in assisting with the extradition, emphasizing their commitment to addressing violent fugitives and heinous allegations like those against O’Keeffe.

As of Monday, O’Keeffe is being held at the Bucks County Correctional Facility on 10 percent of a $500,000 bail. Investigators also discovered suspected marijuana, THC, or CBD oil, and firearms on the property; however, these findings did not lead to additional charges at this time.

Narrow Way Farm was previously known for public events such as goat yoga and marketed for selling grass-fed meat, raw milk, and goat cheese. However, visitors reported a notable decline in the farm’s conditions over the past year.
