By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Louisiana has reported the first U.S. death from H5N1 bird flu, according to the Louisiana Department of Health.
The individual, over 65 years old with underlying health conditions, was hospitalized after exposure to a backyard flock of birds, CNN reports.
While no person-to-person transmission has been detected, health officials are closely monitoring the situation.
H5N1 symptoms in humans can include fever, fatigue, cough, and sore throat.
