The war, now in its fourth year, has seen Russia maintaining a tactical advantage, and Ukraine has expressed support for a U.S. ceasefire proposal, AP reports.
However, Moscow’s stringent conditions have stalled negotiations.
In St. Petersburg, U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff met with Putin and discussed potential pathways to a truce, although details from the meeting remain sparse. The Biden administration continues to advocate for a comprehensive peace agreement, despite frustrations over Russia’s reluctance to engage meaningfully in discussions.
After a meeting of Ukraine’s Western allies in Brussels, British Defense Secretary John Healey confirmed a historic military funding boost to Ukraine.
This includes a joint $580 million investment from the UK and Norway for drones, radar systems, and more. Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov emphasized the need for enhanced air defenses following recent deadly attacks.
Amidst rising concerns that Russia may be preparing for a renewed offensive, European leaders stress the urgency of expediting military support to bolster Ukraine’s position ahead of potential negotiations.
The situation underscores the ongoing complexities of the conflict, amid global diplomatic efforts to seek a resolution.
