By Zoila Palma:  Several European countries, including the UK, Germany, Denmark, and Finland, have updated their travel advisories for citizens visiting the U.S. following a series of detentions of European tourists at U.S. airports, Yahoo reports.

The detentions have raised concerns over the discretionary power of U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers, leading to unpredictable outcomes for travelers, even those with valid documents.

Germany was the first to revise its advisory after at least three German citizens were detained despite having the proper visas or ESTA approvals. One was held for 16 days, and another spent over six weeks in detention. The German Foreign Office reminded citizens that entry into the U.S. is ultimately up to border authorities, not guaranteed by valid documents.

The UK also updated its advisory after several British citizens were detained, including one woman who was held for over ten days. UK officials warned travelers to ensure they comply strictly with their visa conditions.

Denmark and Finland issued targeted warnings for transgender travelers, urging them to clarify any gender marker issues with the U.S. embassy before traveling, as such discrepancies may lead to entry problems.

The warnings reflect growing concern over heightened scrutiny at U.S. borders, with travelers advised to be prepared for possible detentions or secondary screenings.
