By Zoila Palma: On Monday, the foreign ministers of the Dominican Republic and Kenya called on the international community to deliver and expand promised funding for the UN-backed Multinational Security Support (MSS) mission in Haiti.
The mission, led by Kenya and deployed in June 2024, is struggling to combat Haiti’s worsening gang violence due to insufficient financial and logistical support.
Around 75% of the MSS’s 1,000 personnel are Kenyan, Reuters report.
Over 1,600 people have been killed and more than 1 million displaced in Haiti in early 2025, according to the UN.
The ministers urged nations to fulfill and increase their contributions to allow the mission to operate fully.
