By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Colombia will send its presidential plane to Honduras to bring back Colombian nationals after the country rejected U.S. deportation flights, The Hill reports.
President Gustavo Petro announced the move on Sunday, emphasizing the country’s commitment to ensuring a “dignified return” for migrants.
This decision comes after U.S. President Trump imposed tariffs and travel bans on Colombia, retaliating against the country’s refusal to accept two deportation flights.
In response, Petro ordered a 25% tariff increase on U.S. goods, calling for domestic products to replace American imports.
Petro had previously declared his opposition to U.S. deportation flights, stating on social media that Colombia would not allow such planes to enter its airspace, criticizing the U.S. treatment of Colombian migrants.
