International News: CARICOM Secretary-General engages Colombia on regional cooperation at CELAC Summit

By Zoila Palma: Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretary-General Dr. Carla Barnett held discussions with Colombia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Rosa Yolanda Villavicencio Mapy, on Thursday, March 19, on the margins of the Tenth Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) in Bogotá.

Discussions included strengthening cooperation among regions spanning Africa, the Caribbean, and South America.

Key areas of engagement included democracy, peace, and sustainable development, as well as expanding South-South cooperation among member states.

Discussions also addressed climate change and environmental resilience, alongside opportunities to enhance economic and trade collaboration between the regions.

 Both sides examined shared priorities in advancing collective responses to global and regional challenges.

The situation in Haiti was also highlighted, with emphasis on support for stabilization efforts and the advancement of constitutional elections.

Dr. Barnett is scheduled to participate in the Tenth CELAC Summit on March 21, 2026.
