By Zoila Palma: A British man has emerged as the sole survivor of a devastating Air India crash that killed 241 people shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad.
Vishwashkumar Ramesh, who was seated in 11A on the London-bound Boeing 787-8, miraculously escaped the wreckage.
His brother, Nayan Ramesh, told the BBC that Vishwashkumar has “no idea how he survived” and was desperate to find their other brother Ajay, who was also on board and remains unaccounted for.
Air India confirmed that all other passengers and crew, including 169 Indian nationals and 52 Britons, were killed.
Officials say the plane crashed into nearby doctors’ accommodation less than a minute after takeoff.
UK and Indian officials, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and King Charles, expressed deep sorrow. Crisis response teams have been activated, and investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing.
