International News: Brawl erupts in Mexican senate over alleged U.S. intervention support

By Zoila Palma: A session in Mexico’s Senate descended into chaos Wednesday as lawmakers clashed physically following a heated debate over allegations that opposition parties had supported U.S. military intervention against Mexican drug cartels.

The incident began when opposition PRI leader Alejandro Moreno confronted Senate President Gerardo Fernández Noroña of the ruling Morena party, accusing him of silencing opposition voices during the debate.

In footage shared on social media, Moreno is seen shoving Noroña multiple times, slapping him on the neck, and pushing another senator who attempted to intervene, CBS reports.

The altercation came amid accusations from the Morena party that opposition parties PRI and PAN backed calls for U.S. military involvement in Mexico’s fight against drug cartels—a claim both parties deny.

Noroña later announced plans to file a complaint against Moreno for bodily harm and to seek the removal of his legislative immunity.
