By Zoila Palma: Law enforcement officials in Mexico have returned the body of cartel leader Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, known as “El Mencho,” to his relatives.
Mexico’s Attorney General’s office announced that the body was handed over to his relatives but did not disclose the location.
Oseguera, who had been Mexico’s most wanted man prior to his death, was killed a week ago during a military operation.
The operation took place in Jalisco on Sunday, where security forces targeted the powerful cartel boss.
Officials confirmed that Oseguera died during the confrontation with the military.
His death triggered a wave of retaliatory violence across much of Mexico, with dozens reported killed in unrest linked to the cartel.
The violence also temporarily forced foreign tourists to remain inside their hotels as security concerns escalated in several areas.
