The two leaders sat together in the Oval Office for about two hours, discussing national security, domestic policy, and global issues.
Biden emphasized the importance of supporting Ukraine, while Trump voiced concerns about the Middle East and praised Biden for being “gracious” in their discussions.
Both leaders expressed a commitment to a smooth transition of power.
Biden welcomed Trump back to the White House, offering his full support for the handover process. “We’re looking forward to a smooth transition,” Biden said, while Trump thanked him for the “smoothest transition it can get.”
The meeting marked a stark contrast to the 2020 election, when Trump refused to meet Biden after his loss.
While Biden has consistently criticized Trump for undermining democracy, and Trump has attacked Biden’s competence, their meeting reflected a step toward restoring traditional norms of peaceful transitions.
Earlier in the day, Trump celebrated his victory with House Republicans, where he was joined by Elon Musk, who has played a significant role in Trump’s campaign.
Meanwhile, preparations for Trump’s inauguration are already underway, signaling the impending power shift.
