By Zoila Palma:  International Labour Organization (ILO) Caribbean Deputy Director Thomas Kring continued his first visit to Belize on September 23, meeting with project partners and beneficiaries of the European Union-funded ILO PROSPER Project.

Kring, accompanied by Senior Operations Officer Roger Rodriguez, met with the PROSPER team at its office in Punta Gorda to discuss project implementation and operational systems. The delegation later visited the communities of Blue Creek and Aguacate alongside National Project Coordinator Tanisha Chavarria.

During the community visits, ILO representatives met with community leaders, learned about local priorities and listened to concerns and plans ahead of the next phase of the project. The engagement focused on strengthening community participation in local development.

The next phase will see established Local Action Groups in Stann Creek and Toledo Districts develop and implement Local Economic Development Plans based on community priorities.

The project provides training, capacity-building and other support, in collaboration with the Government of Belize through the Ministry of Rural Transformation, Community Development and Local Government.
