By Zoila Palma: Dr. Joni Musabayana, Director of the International Labour Organization (ILO) Decent Work Team and Office for the Caribbean, paid a technical visit to the Ministry of Labour on Monday, strengthening ties between the ILO and Belize.
The visit was hosted by the Labour Department under the Ministry of Rural Transformation, Community Development, Labour, and Local Government.
During the meeting, Dr. Musabayana expressed appreciation for Belize’s renewed engagement in the ILO system, particularly highlighting the country’s participation in the recent International Labour Conference after a 16-year absence.
He emphasized the importance of Belize’s active involvement in shaping labour policies during a time of global change.
The discussion also focused on the ongoing implementation of the PROSPER project in southern Belize, an initiative funded by the European Union and executed by the ILO to promote decent work and economic resilience.
Minister Florencio Marin Jr. was joined by CEO Valentino Shal, Labour Commissioner Risella Dominquez Patt, and Deputy Labour Commissioner Claire Lamb.
