By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Police are investigating a road traffic accident that occurred around 5:20 p.m. on Sunday at mile 4 on the Hummingbird Highway in the Stann Creek District, leaving a young woman with serious injuries.
Reports from the Dangriga Police indicate that the accident involved two motorcycles: a black Lifan 125 driven by Shawn Anthony Nadario, 33, a Belizean ice factory worker of Dangriga Town; and a Bashan Cycle bearing license plate SCM0121, driven by Kenroy Winston Smith, 21, a Belizean laborer of Pomona New Site, with passenger Nieomi Angela Vinula, 19, a Belizean student also of Pomona New Site.
When officers arrived on the scene, they observed the Lifan motorcycle on the left side of the road in the grass with visible damage to its tail light and back tire. The Bashan cycle was found in the middle of the road with a broken headlight. Initial information gathered indicated that those involved in the crash had already been transported to the Southern Regional Hospital for medical attention.
A sketch plan of the accident site was drawn and the scene was processed by police investigators. Around 6:30 p.m., officers visited the hospital, where a medical form was issued to all three individuals. Doctors later confirmed that Nieomi Vinula suffered internal bleeding and a cracked skull and was subsequently transported via ambulance to Belize City for further treatment.
Both Nadario and Smith were treated for their injuries and later released.
The incident is being investigated as a case of “Drove Motor Vehicle Without Due Care and Attention”.
Authorities remind all motorists to exercise extreme caution when driving on the Hummingbird Highway, especially during late evening hours, as reduced visibility and slippery road conditions can increase the risk of serious collisions.
