By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The 2024-2025 Closing Championship of the Premier League of Belize (PLB) reaches its climactic Week 10, with teams battling for final playoff positions and seedings in what promises to be an action-packed weekend.

As the regular season draws to a close, three teams—Port Layola, Verdes, and Progresso—have already secured their playoff berths. However, the race for the fourth and final spot remains wide open, with Belmopan and the San Pedro Pirates both vying for a postseason chance.

Port Layola secure top spot

League leaders and reigning champions Port Layola are the only team assured of their top seed heading into the playoffs. With 23 points, they cannot be overtaken, ensuring home-field advantage throughout the postseason.

Potential rank changes for Verdes and Progresso

Second-place Verdes and third-place Progresso are separated by only two points, meaning their ranks could switch depending on the final weekend’s results. Verdes, currently with 16 points, will look to solidify their position in their match against Belmopan, while Progresso, at 14 points, need a victory against Wagiya and a Verdes loss to climb into second place.

Battle for Fourth Place

Belmopan sit in fourth place with 10 points, having recently surpassed the San Pedro Pirates, who are fifth with 9 points. The final playoff spot remains up for grabs, and both teams face critical matchups this weekend that could alter their standings.

Week 10 Fixtures

Belmopan vs Verdes: Saturday, March 29, 7:30 pm at Isidoro Beaton Stadium, Belmopan

Belmopan host Verdes in a must-win game. While Verdes aim to secure their hold on second place and home-field advantage, Belmopan need a victory to maintain fourth place.

San Pedro face the formidable league leaders Port Layola, needing a win to reclaim fourth place and keep their playoff hopes alive.
