Institute for Social and Cultural Research hosts workshop on documenting Belize’s food heritage

By Zoila Palma:  The Institute for Social and Cultural Research (ISCR-NICH) is hosting its fifth district-level workshop at the Museum of Belizean Art (MOBA) from June 22–24, bringing together participants to learn of documenting and safeguarding Belize’s food heritage.

The workshop opened with welcome remarks from Albert Vaughan, President of NICH; Rolando Cocom, Director of ISCR; and Ilona Smiling, Director of the Museum of Belize and Houses of Culture.

Speakers highlighted the ongoing work of the Belize Food Heritage Project and reaffirmed NICH’s commitment to safeguarding Belize’s food heritage and the livelihoods connected to it.

Designed to build local capacity, the workshop equips participants with the knowledge and skills needed to document Belize’s food heritage as part of the national effort to inventory, safeguard, and celebrate the country’s diverse culinary traditions.

ISCR-NICH extended gratitude to UNESCO International Assistance, the Ministry of Culture, and the Museum of Belize, the Museum of Belizean Art for their support in making the initiative possible.
