By Zoila Palma: The Institute for Social and Cultural Research (ISCR) recently hosted its first district-level workshop under the Belize Food Heritage Project at the Banquitas House of Culture in Orange Walk.

The session brought together members of the Living Heritage Network.

ISCR continues empowering communities to document and celebrate the diverse food traditions of the Orange Walk District.

Building on the foundation laid at the National Workshop, participants learnt of the UNESCO 2003 Convention, received an overview of the Belize Food Heritage Project, and explored key concepts related to the safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage.

The workshop also provided insights into inventorying tools and techniques, ensuring participants are well prepared to contribute to the National Inventory and help safeguard Belize’s culinary traditions.

“We look forward to engaging each of the other district in inventorying our food traditions. We would like to express our gratitude to our participants and the Banquitas House of Culture and to UNESCO international assistance,” ISCR noted.
