By Aaron Humes: The Belize City Council has announced the cancellation of the 2025 Independence Day Uniform and People’s Parade, which was set to take place on Sunday, September 21. The decision comes after forecasts predicted inclement weather conditions that would severely impact the festivities.
Officials cited concerns over safety and the logistical challenges posed by the anticipated rain. Alongside the parade, the highly anticipated 21st Belize City Bash has also been canceled. Organizers expressed regret over the cancellations, emphasizing the significant preparations and financial commitments made by vendors and performers in anticipation of the events.
“Out of an abundance of caution, we must prioritize the safety of our attendees and the integrity of our events,” stated a statement from the Belize City Council. “The weather forecast indicated conditions that would not only hinder set-up and logistics but also pose risks to essential technical equipment.”
In light of the rainy season, the council urged residents to stay safe and dry, extending wishes for a happy and safe Independence Day to all Belizeans.
Official ceremonies will be held at Battlefield Park and in other municipalities pending further weather updates.
