By Zoila Palma: Today, BELTRAIDE joined the Protected Areas Conservation Trust (PACT), Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA), Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Enterprise (MAFSE) and the Department of Cooperatives to officially launch Component 3 of the IICA-led Sustainable Livelihood Project—“Creating Opportunities to Support Alternative Livelihoods.”
This vital initiative, funded by the Adaptation Fund through PACT, aims to empower Belizean communities with the tools, training, and support needed to develop nature-based enterprises and build resilience against climate threats such as drought, floods, and wildfires.
Under this project, BELTRAIDE has been allocated BZD $744,500 to support 5 community groups with business development training, technical assistance, and market access for sustainable ventures.
By supporting local entrepreneurs, especially women and youth, this initiative strengthens Belize’s national commitment to climate resilience, economic empowerment, and sustainable development.
BELTRAIDE’s Acting SBDC Manager, Jorge Gentle, shared the organization’s vision to foster vibrant, climate-resilient communities through sustainable enterprise.
“Together, we’re building resilient communities, strong enterprises, and a sustainable Belize,” BELTRAIDE noted.
