Two 20-year-old Lebanese fraternal twin brothers who are already facing criminal charges over allegedly false Belizean birth certificates were back before the court on Monday, this time for immigration violations.
Alaa Harmouch and Yahya Harmouch appeared in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court, where they both pleaded guilty to failing to comply with the conditions of their visitor’s permits after remaining in Belize for more than six months beyond the period they were authorized to stay.
The brothers entered Belize through the Northern Border on January 1, 2026, using Lebanese passports and were granted permission to remain in the country until January 30. Immigration records reportedly showed that neither brother obtained an extension.
Their immigration status came to light after they went to the San Pedro Immigration Office on August 13 to apply for Belizean passports, reportedly presenting Belizean birth certificates and voter identification cards. The birth certificates were subsequently flagged for verification in Belmopan, triggering an investigation.
Police later charged each brother with uttering a false document in relation to the birth certificates. They were arraigned in the San Pedro Magistrate’s Court on Friday, August 14, pleaded not guilty and were granted bail of $3,000 each plus a surety in the same amount.
Following their detention, Immigration officers reviewed their Lebanese passports and checked the Migration Information and Data Analysis System (MIDAS), which confirmed that the brothers had entered Belize as visitors and that their permits expired on January 30.
On Monday, represented by attorney Dr. Lynden Jones, both men pleaded guilty to the immigration offence.
Each was fined $1,000 plus $5 cost of court, with the money ordered to be paid forthwith. Failure to pay would result in six months’ imprisonment.
The twins remain on bail on the separate criminal charges concerning the allegedly false birth certificates and are expected to return to court in October as those cases continue.
