By Breaking Belize News Staff: (HP): U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has confirmed the arrest of Belizean national Benigno Loria, identifying him as a confirmed member of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG).
According to ICE Houston, Loria was arrested at large last week. Authorities stated that he had a 2024 final removal order, an open arrest warrant, and documented gang affiliation.
ICE reported that Loria will remain in custody pending deportation proceedings.
The agency also noted that the CJNG was formerly led by Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, also known as “El Mencho,” who was reportedly killed by Mexican security forces last weekend.
Loria had previously made headlines in Belize in 2023 after surviving a shooting at the Pueblo Viejo ferry in Corozal, an incident authorities had described as drug-related.
Belizean officials have not yet released a detailed follow-up statement regarding ICE’s announcement.
