By Zoila Palma Gonzalez: Weather experts are monitoring Hurricanes Milton, Leslie and Kirk in the Atlantic.

Hurricane Milton has rapidly intensified into a Category 4 storm, prompting new watches and warnings for parts of Mexico and the Gulf Coast.

As of this morning, the storm’s eye was located near latitude 21.8 North and longitude 92.2 West, moving east-southeast at approximately 8 mph (13 km/h).

Milton’s maximum sustained winds have surged to around 125 mph (205 km/h), with even higher gusts expected.

The storm is anticipated to maintain its intensity over the next few days, posing a significant threat as it approaches the Yucatán Peninsula today and Tuesday.

Forecasters predict Milton will then cross the eastern Gulf of Mexico, potentially reaching the west coast of Florida by Wednesday.

A Hurricane Warning is currently in effect for the area from Celestun to Rio Lagartos.

Additionally, a Hurricane Watch has been issued for regions stretching from Rio Lagartos to Cabo Catoche, as well as from Campeche to south of Celestun and the Florida Gulf Coast, including Tampa Bay and the Dry Tortugas.

A Storm Surge Watch is also in effect for the Florida Gulf Coast from Flamingo northward to the mouth of the Suwannee River.

Meanwhile, Hurricane Leslie continues its northwestern path in the Atlantic, approximately 1,065 miles (1,720 km) west of the southernmost Cabo Verde Islands.

As of this morning, Leslie’s maximum sustained winds were recorded at 90 mph (150 km/h), with gradual weakening expected in the coming days.

Hurricane Kirk is nearing extratropical status as it moves northeast at about 30 mph (48 km/h), with maximum sustained winds of 75 mph (120 km/h).

While gradual weakening is forecasted, Kirk remains a large system, generating substantial swells and rip current risks along the U.S. East Coast.

Residents in affected areas are urged to stay informed and take necessary precautions as these storms develop.
