By Horace Palacio: Belizeans can expect a warm, mostly dry Thursday as a moderate to fresh easterly airflow dominates the weather pattern today. According to the National Meteorological Service, skies will remain sunny with a few cloudy spells throughout the day, and any showers will be isolated and short-lived.
However, by tonight, conditions will shift slightly with a few showers or isolated thunderstorms expected to develop over southern Belize and the Maya Mountains. Areas like Punta Gorda, parts of Toledo, and the higher elevations of Stann Creek could see brief downpours or thunderstorm activity after sundown.
Winds are coming in from the east at 10 to 20 knots, leading to moderate seas and wave heights between 4 and 6 feet. Daytime temperatures will remain hot inland, peaking near 96°F (36°C), while coastal areas will be slightly cooler around 90°F (32°C). Hilltops will remain in the low 80s.
Forecasters are advising residents in the south to keep an umbrella handy tonight, especially those in flood-prone zones.
Looking ahead to Friday, isolated showers and a few thunderstorms are again expected, particularly across the Toledo District, as moisture lingers over the area.
