By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Honduran national who regularly purchased scrap gold in Belize City was allegedly lured to the Faber’s Road area Wednesday evening before being shot and killed after a demand for money, police say.
Police responded to the shooting at around 6:20 p.m. and found 42-year-old Dennis Guevara suffering from gunshot injuries. He was rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, where he later succumbed.
According to investigators, Guevara routinely purchased scrap gold from people in the area and had reportedly been contacted by someone who asked to meet him there.
Police say that during the meeting, the person allegedly demanded money from Guevara before shooting him several times.
Authorities have not yet confirmed whether robbery was the motive for the killing.
Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage from the area and are working to identify and locate suspects.
